Anyone else has Verizon DSL drops periodically?

Jun 17, 2007 1:48PM PDT

I have had Verizon DSL for about 2 years, switch from Cable for the lower price. Unfortunately throughout the whole 2 years I have experienced ridiculous disconnections for no reason! I have called them for several times, the tech support was just of no help!( well, they always told u to restart ur modem, reboot ur computer, and think that helped...)
Sometimes it works great, and sometimes it drops from time to time even at daytime! i would say 2 out of 10 days i got these pissed off drops. And when it rains and with thunders, it will 100% drop! Almost every time there's a thunder, it drops instantly! I called them regarding this issue, they apparently didnt know anything about it! And today at this moment at night, it dropped every 20 mins again( for a few hours)!
I am now determined to switch to cable, or other DSL!

My story...

Here in the NE they would change something and knock down 4 states for a day or 2. While they got better I moved to cable with the 99 buck a month deal for tv,internet, phone and that's the primary reason I changed.

In your case your story sounds like a real issue that you can only solve by changing services.

The clue
Jun 18, 2007 12:28AM PDT

is rains and thunder it drops. Your phone service probably drops also.

It sounds like you have a bad wire coming into the house from outside.

If you are using a wireless router with the Verizon DSL, try updating the firmware and also make sure the router ip address is different from the Westell Modem/router, if you have one.

This sounds like faulty wiring more than the service. I had the same issue with my Comcast internet a few years back and as someone else mentioned it turned out to be a faulty wire coming from the pole to the home. In different weather it would react differently. Snow was deadly to it, rain made the signal slow down, and in the middle of the summer it would just randomly drop for 15 - 20 minutes at a time.

thanks for all of u guys' replies~ Thanks so much for pointing out my westell modem might need an update, which might cause the drops.
so I finally called Verizon last night, again they were "sorry" about the issue, just like i said they dont know wat the problem is at all. so she said she put a note under my account and told me to called them once if i got disconnected again.
Then i tried to look for the update in Westell's website, without luck, it said the model is specifically made for Verizon, i have to contact Verizon to get the update. Then i went to Verizon's site, without luck again I cant find it. finally i googled it, in a forum called "Broadband", and in the forum i found a link to the update, and that update was in Verizon's website! so that means if u go directly to Verizon's website u will not be able to find it...

So, very pleased to tell u guys after i installed the update, i havent experienced drops till tonight, hope it wont drop when rains...
