Anyone else had this problem?

Dec 28, 2003 8:26AM PST

Whenever I accidently click on an internet shortcut - without being "online", my machine "runs away" and literally loads dozens of pages of:"Cannot find server" or "page cannot be displayed". My only escape path is to open Task Manager and hit "End Task" numerous times - 'till it stops. But then, I have a blank Task Manager screen which I can only close by hitting the ESC button. Anybody know why this happens or if there's a fix?

I've run ad-aware and AVG scans - with no bugs detected. I'll try your suggested 5 pack scans.
Thanks.

I believe you got some malware running in the bkgrd. and since its alot of websites trying to load it sure seems that way. Use Spybot and/or AdAware pgms. to help control that and be rid of it besides using the latest updated version of your virus scanner. Regardless, just do it as it more safe than sorry. You can try this online scanner:
http://www.webroot.com and get spyaudit.exe and allow it to check your system.

good luck -----Willy

Willy, Thanks for the link. I tried running it from a download and I also tried it by just opening the file. I got an access violation at 00450DBF in module systemaudit1 5929489.EXE Read of address FFFFFFFF. I know you may not have an answer but I'm just curious why the error? Any ideas? Thanks

That error isn't familiar to me, but it appears it filled up the stack dump and coundn't go any further, meaning it basically couldn't control what it reached or along those line. Here is some more info that I recently garished from the web:

Thanks for the links Willy, I see a couple of new ones. One thing for sure, system audit just won't work on my system.

After scanning my system with Adaware and AVG,(neither program detected a bug) I downloaded and ran Spybot-S&D. It seems to have done the trick, but I'll let you know if the problem returns. Thanks Guys!
