Confirmation hearing of Attorney General candidate.
Attorney General-designate Michael Mukasey made it clear to senators Wednesday that he would be independent of the White House and would make legal decisions based "on facts and law, not by interests and motives."
H?mmm. I thought the Attorney General was a ?cabinet? position. Cabinet members are appointed by the president. Isn?t it reasonable and fair to assume ?any? political appointment carries an amount of baggage ?
Obviously some of the ?appointed?, and recently fired, US Attorneys overlooked this probability when they accepted their appointments.
So,? Mukasey goes into this assuring the Congress of his ?independence?. Wonder how long that ?independence? will prevail when those that sign his paycheck and approve his budget (the Congress) start making phone calls.
