Anynet setup on BDP2500 and LN52A650.

Mar 7, 2009 6:09AM PST

I have the LN52A650 and the BDP2500 and have set up the Anynet so that when I put a DVD in the player and turn it on, the TV turns on and switches to the Anynet connection. I use the DVD remote without any probles. When I turn off the DVD with the remote the TV turns off also. Everything works great.

However, when I turn off the DVD and the TV, and then turn the TV on later, the source is on TV. I have Dish Network hooked to the TV on HDMI 1 and that is where I would prefer it to select. How to I have this as the default instead of TV, or is it possible?

Anynet setup on BDP2500 and LN52A650.

dondunlap13,

Without the use of anynet, the default signal when the television turns on will be the tuner. Unfortunately, there's no way to disable or program it otherwise. Even the timer that turns on the television at a certain time will only turn on to either the tuner or USB Wiselink feature.

I hope this information is helpful.

Anynet setup on BDP2500

HD Tech. You said: "Without the use of anynet, the default signal when the television turns on will be the tuner."

This is not the way it is on my TV (LN52A650). When I turn it on, it always returns to HDMI1 as the source, which is my Dish Settop box. This is without the use of anynet, which I had never turned on until a couple of days ago when I got the BDP2500. It still does it if I turn it on and off without using the DVD. The only problem that I have is when I turn it off after using the DVD. It then reverts to TV as the Source.

After reading more in the users manual, I guess this is normal and there is nothing I can do about it. It should be considered as a programmable option the next time an update is made to the firmware. Simply allow the selection of input Source as the default.

Default...
Mar 8, 2009 1:06PM PDT

dondunlap13,

With the cable box on, it may detect the signal and go to the active signal rather than the tuner. With the cable box off (thus no signal), the default input would be the tuner. Anynet wouldn't factor into that equation.

What's happening in regards to your original post is that when you turn off the DVD, the cable box may be off - and as a result, turning the TV back on wihout the cable box on first means that no signal was present, and defaults back to the tuner.

There is no default that I'm aware of, and I think despite how it may not work in your situation, was the design of the unit to go to AN active input, defaulting back to the TV.

If that's not the case and I went off in the wrong direction, please let me know how and I'll see what I can do to best answer your question.

I am going to do some testing and get more specific detail. I'll post back later.

Thanks for the help.

Upconversion on the BDP 2500
Mar 10, 2009 11:36AM PDT

As a side note, I got the 2500 to replace a Sony BDP S300. The Sony is extremely slow and hangs up on me many times. It did do upconversion very well though. I have noticed that when I play conventional DVDS, not Blu_Ray, they are not as sharp on the Samsung as they were on the Sony. I find nothing in the 2500 manual about upconversion and am wondering if there is something in the setup that would affect this?

Actually there are 2.

There are two settings you can adjust listed on page 43 of the manual.

If you go into the 2500 menu, then go down to "Setup", go to "HDMI Setup", you will find "Sharpness" and "DVD Noise Reduction".

The manual does not say much of anything about the features do. Only "Sharpness - To adjust the sharpness of the picture (off, low, middle, high)" and "DVD Noise Reduction - This setting can be used to reduce the image noise on DVD discs on the screen. (off, low middle, high). This feature does not work with Blu-ray Discs.).

Anynet default input
Jul 23, 2009 9:29PM PDT

I have a Samsung LE40A676 LCD TV and a brand new BD1250 Bluray home cinema system. With Anynet enabled I experience the problem that when the bluray player is switched off after use, the TV always reverts to TV tuner rather than the input which I was last using which is an HDMI input with a satellite Rx/PVR connected. This happens 100% of the time whether the sat RX is on, or in standby.Since I never use the TV tuner..no aerial connected... and always watch the sat Rx this is so irritating that I prefer to switch Anytime off, which makes it pointless. The annoying source selection, in which inputs are displayed in a different order each time you select "source" doesn't help either! This seems like a very strange design especially as there appears to be no way to change the default setup. Any cure for this very basic problem?
