Anybody watch the demonstrators on CSPAN.......

I tried to watch a bit, but it was so ridiculous I "surfed on".

I can only sympathize with main line democrats who will be unfairly associated with the fall-out that will portray the democratic party as consisting of a multitude of disparate radical and/or fringe groups. The bit I watched looked more like some "extreme" parade out in San Francisco, rather than a political interest gathering.

Guess they said over 800 separate groups were represented.

As the camera 'zoomed in' performers took note and reacted. There were signs for socialist and communist groups, as well as anti-American and anti-Police signs. UFWU; Act-Up; some naked individuals, and some "old" hippies acting like they were on LSD, all doing their thing. Several Peace-nik groups were present, including "Don't make War...Save the Sardines".

It seems the most popular word used was a four letter word beginning with "F" and ending with "K". The second most popular word, also a four letter word, started with "S" and ended with "T". I'm surprised CSPAN aired some of it as the profanity and vulgarity would put a Marine Corps Drill Instructor to shame.

I heard of only one fire being started. Hope the violence is contained.

And the USofA is supposed to be some kind of political role model for the world ? In your dreams...... .

"A sea of riff raff have descended on my city. Every liberal whacko with a gripe is here, God help us. Freedom of expression is to use vulgarity, carry flags upside down or burn them, drop their clothes, anything to get the attention of news cameramen. I hope it stays peaceful. The cops here don't take crap. They've been preparing for the onslaught for months."

Hi, Del.

Most are hard-core leftists (true socialists) or anarchists, not "liberals."

And some, no doubt, are just showing up to have a good time and participate in a "happening" for its own sake. "Save the sardines" sounds tongue-in-cheek to me.

And let's not come down too hard on the people holding up signs with the F word on them. After all, they're just emulating the incumbent Vice President. Wink

And they want to use words bush won't need explained to him. I'm sure the protesters are doing the best they can.

I don't think that reasonable people believe that the demonstrators represent the Democrat Party, just as they did not hold the Republicans responsible for Chicago in '68.

Many of those groups are made up of people who will use any venue they think offers wide exposure.

As far as what the world thinks, IMO, they already have good evidence of how polarized we are. On the other hand, it offers proof that folks here are free to protest, and the demonstrations are not organized by the government, as they are in so many other countries.

Setting the car on fire was inexcusable. I understand that the guilty went to jail. Good! My hope is that some of the professional "demonstrators" who are prone to such acts infiltrated, and that the rest of them will be peaceful.

Only by following the "rules" as set forth in the Constitution could their assemblies have any value.
