Anybody want a Baghdad pet ?

Here a GI holds up two Camel Spiders for you to see.

How would you like to find one of those in your bed at night ?

The good news is ... they're not poisonous ...

Those critters certainly look fierce!

You can read more about them at Solifugae (Camel Spider) where it notes that This species possesses no poison and relies on strength and speed. It is carnivorous and lives on a diet of insects, spiders, scorpions and small lizards.

You can also read about one of the Urban Legends around the Camel Spider at Camel Spiders Found in Iraq - Netlore Archive

Very good Bill. Yes they are solifugids which are not really true spiders at all. They have no silk or venom glands. They are also known as wind scorpions but they're not a real scorpion either. They are hearty eaters and easy to keep as pets though...
