Any way of Searching for videos on YouTube widget?

Jun 4, 2009 9:14AM PDT

Hi All

Is there any way of searching for videos in the YouTube widget of Internet@TV? Or am I limited to the 'Most watched', 'Most Favorited' etc (and related videos?).

Thanks!
Dave

Any way of Searching for videos on YouTube widget?
Jun 5, 2009 7:42AM PDT

BronteDave,

I don't even have access to that widget in the U.S. (Assuming this is a European set). Can someone from that area jump in and suggest anything?

Internet@TV and YouTube
Jun 5, 2009 3:48PM PDT

My Samsung is 40B650 which is made in 2009. I can only open Yahoo widgets (not YouTube) when I upgrade the firmware to latest version (100Cool. This is European firmware. But in my country (Vietnam) the firmware is 1004 and I even can not open Internet@TV as it says : "Not support"

Another problem is in this new firmware (1008), my TV signals only come normal after ~3 minutes (it show : "Weak or No signal" during this time)

Samsung HD Tech, please help me.

rongvietsale,

YouTube has certain regions where they will allow the widget to be used.

Why was a TV purchased in Vietnam upgraded with a European firmware?

Youtube gone
Jun 20, 2009 3:15AM PDT

Hi,

My problem is similar: I updated the firmware, the "old" Samsung widgets gone (Youtube and Weather), and now I can access Yahoo widgets. These widgets are better and the selection is wider but Youtube is missing...
I am in Hungary and I set my location to United Kingdom (but there is not Youtube when I set Germany or United States).

Szia to Hungary from Slovakia :)

Szia,
I had the very same problem. My brand new TV set came with Youtube service, which was deleted after firmware update without any warning and not possible to be added (I have also tested the "ver.T-CHU7DEUC-2004.0)" one, same crappy behaviour). Only these useless Yahoo widgets are available, when the the firmware is newver than 1006. However, as long as you have not upgraded the firmware further, you can go back to the previous firmware by going to "?" menu item of your TV set -> Software Upgrade -> Alternative Software -> choose ..._001006. After your TV set automatically turns off and on, in order to get Youtube service back you need to do one more thing: factory reset by holding the Exit button on your remote control for about a minute or so. Then a question will appear on the screen - confirm it. After you turn the TV on again, Youtube is back. // I haven't tried Germany as a country when having the new firmware with Yahoo Widgets whether Youtube would finally be present. // However, this is a temporary solution , as I am not quite sure how long we can live with the old firmware, as e.g. new and new film codecs might be released.

But I am really upset by Samsung that I bought the TV set beacause of the widely advertised Youtube service in magazines, and they just take it away by firmware upgrades. This is not professional customer-oriented behaviour, guys!!!

It looks to me like Samsung and Yahoo are in bed together. Youtube is the losing bidder, and we (the customers) are the losers overall. My LN46B650 came with Yahoo widgets only. Samsung has already told me that no firmware updates will be offered for this TV.

PA_LN46B650,

I can't speak on the agreements between partnerships, unfortunately. But suffice to say that it's not a bidding war. Just because we have a partnership with one service provider doesn't mean that another one doesn't get to play.

Additionally, some regions don't have the legal allowances for content (globally).

Firmware updates will be available if the unit warrants it, and that is region specific. I'm not sure why someone would say definitively that no future firmware updates will arrive, but if something is to be improved, it will be.

I trust you have our best intrests in mind.

I have read enough of your helpful replies to know you are here to help. However, it is hard to believe you could be 100% correct on this one. Yahoo, Google, Youtube...anyone who owns a commercial website competes for traffic. How else could they sell advertising other than putting "butts in the seats" as it were? It is much easier to think that competition would extend to technology manufacturers than to think it doesn't. If you are certain there are no exclusivity deals in play here, I will take you at your word.

Thanks for having our backs!

PA_LN46B650,

I appeciate the kind words.

I'm not privy on the agreements, so I could never be 100% unless I'm part of them. I'm not.

The last I heard is that there is at least one requirement for one specific widget that our menu design doesn't allow for, and this was brought up after production started. Until that agreement is nailed out by the widget provider and our guys, there's nothing we can do to force a widget provider to provide content. Neither side should take blame here, and I'm optimistic for a positive resolution.

Tell you what; (and since I opened my mouth on this one) if I find I'm wrong, I'll post a correction. Fair? Happy

"Additionally, some regions don't have the legal allowances for content (globally)."

Yes, it is understandable, but BEFORE the firmware update there was Youtube widget on my TV in my region (Hungary). It worked great and I saw the development of this widget but after the update it has gone...
By the way I do not understand fully this content limiting as with computer naturally we can access Youtube from Hungary, why cannot we access it from the TV? Because it is a different device? It is "funny", very funny...

I fully agree
Jul 3, 2009 3:30AM PDT

Hello, I fully agree with your point. This is changing the specifications of the product by Samsung without asking the customer.
BTW? have you tried reverting back to the old firmware, as I described above?

Tesztelo.hu,

Again, I wasn't privy to the agreements. I'm not sure why the firmware limits the YouTube features, but we've done what we're supposed to do for the time being. If you want to hack the television and switch regions, I'm certainly not going to stop anybody. But I'll say it now: Entering the service menu is something I always discourage, as it is for service technicians and professional calibrators only. If you do something in the service menu and it screws up the television (search the threads, there are plenty of examples), I can't help fix it.

Custom searches on the YouTube widget works
Jul 13, 2009 5:17AM PDT

The Samsung North American version (still not yet Version 1) of the YouTube widget became available over the weekend of July 10. If you have a model running the Yahoo Widgets platform (Samsung's Internet@TV) you can download it. No firmware update required. When running the app, you can perform and view clips from custom searches across all of YouTube's content as well as view content "channels" like Most Viewed, Most Discussed, Features, etc. I wrote a review highlighting what I like about the YouTube widget and what is still coming up short: http://bit.ly/wXAfy

Yes, in Hungary the widget is also appeared without any warning... I had installed it but I got data error when I tried to use and the Top rated, Top viewed, etc. categories do not work (the lists are empty). Search function works, but I think this data error also will disappear in the future...

YouTube widget
Aug 5, 2009 3:23AM PDT

Hi all,

I bought the LE37B658 and have been playing with the different widgets (of interest). The YouTube widget I cannot get to work - the only thing that actually works is "search" the rest of the menu items does not respond Sad

I have upgraded to the latest sw - no changes.

Any hints to get it working?

Cheers from Norway

yes, my problem is similar. Try to change the location in the Profile menu. If I change it from UK to another country it works. But when I change back to UK (although I am in Hungary but it is missing from the list...) only the Search works.
