Any solutions for tinnitus problems with earbuds?

Aug 5, 2010 11:29AM PDT

I have tinnitus which is a constant ringing in my ears. Loud noises, loud music, and listening to sound via earbuds or headphones makes the ringing louder. I would like to use MP3 players and other devices but have not found a way to avoid the louder ringing. Does anybody know if there is a way to listen privately to music in public without making the ringing worse? Thanks to all.

Time to see the doc.

I fear the answer is at the doc's office.

No cure available - need another solution

Thanks for your interest. I've been to the doctor and there is no cure for tinnitis. I'm hoping somebody has a hardware or software solution so that I can use earbuds or headphones to listen to music privately without making the problem worse.

The doc is not for the cure.

We know that. But the doc's advice about this question is best. No way you want to make it worse.

And yes I too have some ringing. My doc's advice was simple. No loud noises. For me I wear the over the ear headphones but the plug is not plugged into the ipod. It may sound odd but folk don't question that. They would if I wore what I wear when I mow the lawn.

Just sharing. I find most won't protect their ears. Go figure.

I appreciate your follow up. Luckily, I don't have a lawn to mow and can avoid loud noises most of the time. My doctor didn't have a solution thus this posting. Maybe I need to see another doctor.
