Any possible Sony SDM-P234/B successor?

Jun 20, 2006 11:13PM PDT

Does any one know if any SDM-P234 successor to be released soon, it is almost 2 years since SDM-P234 was released, and almost a year since i want to upgrade my 19 inches monitor, i need at least 23 inches, and I don?t want to by 2 years old model like Sony or Apple, I would prefer Sony, but i couldn't find even rumors about new monitors. I don't believe in companies like BenQ, LG, Samsung, i ward as a web, graphic and 3d designer so I need a pro or something near it, yet I have no possibilities to buy ColorEdge CG220 by eizo, the price should not exceed 2000 usd, and I do play sometimes, very rare, yet may be one in two or three mounts in something like Half-life, and I was just wondering if I could find a monitor may be not released but planned with HDVI support to connect the Play Station 3 in future.... please help.

http://reviews.cnet.com/Sony_PremierPro_SDM_P234/4505-3174_7-30973775.html notes this fine monitor.

However monitors are very unlike PCs in the rapidfire pace at which PCs are evolving. A 2 year old design may be a great idea since they'll have all the kinks worked out.

As to future products some may always be waiting for the right device to show up and should do so. Sony, Apple and other companies seem loathe to tip their hand as to what's next. If you've been around, you'll remember the "Osbourne Effect." No, that's not about Ozzie.

Actually I was hoping for some insiders to show up and say something like ?relax, Sony will release new 23 (24 or whatever) inches display in few months?...

If you missed out on that era, it was a fine example what happens when you announce too soon or someone leaks what's coming up in the future. You'll see that Apple Computer takes this lesson seriously.

-> More to the point is that monitors are not progressing in technology advances like our PCs. You may be confusing our PC/Mac progresses with the display technologies. In fact, if the Sony you mentioned is acceptable to great it would be a good idea to get a monitor that has been in production a year or 2 rather than chance a new design and possible new production glitches.

Any ideas so far?
Jun 28, 2006 2:43AM PDT

First of all I do not think that I am confusing monitors progress with PC or Mac. Because there is progress, of course the Moore's law doesn?t work here but, few years ago only Eizo LCD displays were good enough for graphic design work, now if we take some high-end model it may meet our requirements. Lets take Apple cinema display and Sony SDM-P234 both have text rendering problem and color issue, and it doesn?t come as a surprise coz they were released two years ago and that time 23 inches monitors with the price near 2000 usd were pretty hard to manufacture. Now if we place a price tag near 2000 usd for 23 inches panel we definitely will get some pro monitor, so the question is when it will be released, or any suggestions on really good 23 inches monitors?

Or you explore Pro monitors like Barco?
Jun 28, 2006 3:23AM PDT

Barco has the color matching and other features you may be writing about. It's not clear to me what your goal was in your posts other than it seemed to me that you were hoping for a "newer" monitor. Only in your last post was a clue dropped you were looking for "pro" type monitors such as what we see from Barco.

Sorry to have misread you, but I only have what's in your posts for direction. Also it appears you are not aware about the history of how we got here. The Osbourne effect was telling as well as you not looking it up yourself. No offense intended.

about Osborne effect
Jun 28, 2006 4:25AM PDT

I?ve read about Osborne effect, righ after you gave me the link, yet there are always some insiders, like in mobile phone industry, that?s why I was hoping to find someone informed, Sony usually makes press release in about month before the actual product release, that means that if the information leaks somehow the news about product could be available months before the release, it happens when people are interested like with SonyPlay Station 3, or new mobile phones? Monitors should not be an exclusion.

As for Barco - couldn't find 23 inches or near, it seems to me that they produce only big monitors...

New Sony 23" lcd Monitor to Replace the Sony Sdm-p234?
Jul 15, 2006 11:35AM PDT

There's a rumor that Sony might be coming out with a 23" widescreen lcd monitor to replace the Sony sdm-p234 on July 27th. Not sure if it's true though. If one is going to come out though I'm defenitely getting one!

That?s exactly what I was talking about.

Hope it is true. Five more days and we will see.

Any news?
Jul 26, 2006 6:33AM PDT

I?ve seen some new BenQ 24 inches announcement, and the monitor seems to have a HDMI support, yet I don?t trust BenQ even for a second. And by the way tomorrow is 27th, so should we wait for some sony announcement or it was just some one pulling our legs?

No news is not good news
Jul 28, 2006 3:21PM PDT

Hi I was quite dissappointed to say the least when I saw no announcement whatsoever about any new 23" sony monitor. I still have hope that they're going to release one soon though. As for myself, I'm also looking for a 23 or 24" lcd. I'm no graphic designer by any means but I do like to work with alot of photos and wallpaper. Some gaming as well. I want a monitor with picture quality very close to a crt. NEC is supposed to be realeasing a new 26" lcd soon. It's supposed to be able to display 92% of the color gamut. So you could look into one of those monitors. Its too bad cause I was really counting on getting a 23" sony monitor to replace my 19" sony lcd. For now I'm still waiting on a new sony monitor but I also would like to keep my options open. I heard that apple's going to be releasing new monitors in September. So I'm hoping that sony will follow.

Happy searching,

I read engadget every day so the chance that I could miss something about Sony monitors is near 0%?
New apple monitors also sound pretty tempting, looks like we have another few months to wait.
