Any news on specific release date for BD-P3600/4600?

Feb 14, 2009 2:09AM PST

Does anyone have any reliable information about when the new Samsung BD-P3600 and BD-P4600 Blu-Ray players are going to be avialable in stores? All I know is that they are projected to be released in the "first half of 2009." Any updated release information will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

system dimentions
Mar 2, 2009 12:31PM PST

Any chance that the dimensions of the unit are released anywhere? I'm going to be installing a tv above a mantle and I want to put the BD-P4600 on the stand on the mantle if it will fit and also leave enough space above it for the television. It seems like the dimensions shouldn't change between now and when it's released.

Just saw the 1600 at best buy!
Mar 3, 2009 12:16PM PST

Just say the 1600 today at Best Buy. The 25x0 appears to be discontinued, so I am sure the 4600 is just around the corner.

Dimensions...

The dimensions can change.

Since that's still a possibility between now and then, I just don't feel comfortable posting the proposed dimensions. I understand it's a ridiculous answer, but the reality is that quoting such a specification that I know is subject to change is a liability issue. I'll post them as soon as I can.

Dimensions...

I still don't have the official dimensions, however I do have this information:

The new wireless dongle for the wireless streaming of Pandora and Netflix will have an "elbow" piece so that the wireless USB stick isn't sticking straight out of the back - it tucks down behind the unit.

You might want to add 1 inch to the dimenions to determine if that is going to fit your needs.

Samsung BD-P3600 Availability / Release Date
Mar 10, 2009 7:38AM PDT

This is funny. I talked with a tier II rep at Samsung today (3/10/09) and he acknowledged it exists but they didn't even have a release date for it or the BD-P4600. He was able to list the new features. The big ones are VQE - Video Quality Ehancement (probably similar to HQV on the BDP-2500/2550), auto picture adjust and it includes the Wireless dongle (part # WIS09ABGN) which is rumored to support 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless for streaming Netflix and Pandora. I believe there is also an additional USB port so you can still connect an external drive while using the wireless. Strangely, I just had a guy at Best Buy do some research and their system says they'll be available on 3/15/09 which is this coming Sunday. I guess we'll see in 5 days..

3600 already at Best Buy
Mar 10, 2009 10:55AM PDT

I have already seen with my own eyes the 3600 at best buy. I found it last Saturday I believe. My guess is they are in transit to all Best Buys and other big retailers as we speak. But, I have herd that the stores that have it are selling them out as soon as they hit the floor. Hope the 4600 is release soon as well. Not sure which one I am going to go after. Unless the 4600 has some additional features, I most likely go for the 3600 as it has the 7.1 outs and I do not want to replace my 4 year old receiver.
