Any good recommendation to improve software/network speed

by zeotrex / February 27, 2006 3:14 PM PST

Hi all,

I wonder if there is any expert(in hosting online software) could give me some good advices out there. I am running an onine javascript+java applet IQ game(something like this) lately. I found the speed is relly a big problem and could have really pissed off many users. Therefore hope could get some good advice here. Will try any significant possible improvement to improve the speed. I have tried to increase the internet connection bandwidth. Then, a good server to improve the system calculation speed. Also, loading JRE for every new first browser load up is really the pain in ***. Again, i am trying not to host the system myself, hosting at the client's side LAN helped to improve a lot of speed.

Therefore, hope if any expert can give me some advices. Like:
- how can i have the JRE loaded up all the time, so that it won't slow down the the system when an applet is loading up.
- any good recommendation to increase the system speed?
- any suggestion for a better network setting up?

By the way, i am using Windows xp.

Many thanks to you all.

The non-software approach.

Max out the ram, then go with dual or dual core CPUs.

Since it's java, you as the programmer would need to find what pieces of your code is slow and optimize it.

They usually have tips for best performance for their application. I didn't write yours but since the machine is topped out with 4GB RAM and dual core CPU, I'd say it's time for a move to linux.
