Any free courses in photoshop?

Mar 12, 2006 11:07AM PST

Hi. I recently got photoshop and a wacom graphire 4 tablet. I would like to know if there are any good places to learn photoshop for free. I searched for photoshop tutorials and there are alot out there, but there's no real continuity to any of them that I can see.

Thanks

There aren't many good tutorials that are still free, but there are a few. The first is this one from About.com, which starts with the very basics. It was written for the older versions, so it may not match up exactly with Photoshop CS2, but it should be pretty close. There's also this one from Cnet, though you have to sign up for it and it's only available during certain tme periods. (It's not available at this time.) Once you feel more comfortable with it there's this guide to creating common effects as well as the official Adobe tutorials.

Hope this helps,
John

hello Taboma,...I still live...
Apr 4, 2006 7:01PM PDT

Me? College? I am always taking a course in one thing or another.
Having retained two degrees and eleven certifications of graduation.
Guess I should mention; Funkid7 is now 41 years young and currently taking a journalism course.
I am supposed to stop using the word and and but so often(A bad habit of mine).
heard the one about the tavern owner who hired a painter to create his signage?
The Tavern would be named Horse and Rider Tavern.
When the painter was finished; the owner took a gander at his work. He then realized the painter had attempted to squeeze the whole name much too close together.
His reply; Hmmm, I think you should put more space between, Horse and And and And and Rider.

That is proper grammatics, honest.

A great number are taking courses lately. Grim, with InDesign for almost a year now.
Kiddpeat back at college also.
When all of you finish with your present courses, I will be the one asking you for help here.
I think that it is just wonderful!

I've found hundreds (if not thousands)
Mar 20, 2006 10:13AM PST

I'm surprised to hear that there aren't many free, good tutorials out there... I've found so many I don't have time for them. I, too, have been teaching myself Photoshop and at this point don';t think that I'll ever have to buy a book again! It's true that most they are not organized into a "course" and that they vary in terms of what they expect you to know... But I've found several for rank beginners. Two suggestions: use google and search for Photoshop tutorials and just browse (which is what I did) or go to "myJanee.com" where there are many tutorials and even a suggested order for working on them.

about graphic software
Mar 22, 2006 11:01PM PST

There are a lot of tutorials for photoshop on about.com/graphic software.

HP, on their website also offers free software classes, and well as here on c/net. Also, Borders has an on line "university" that has a lot of different classes, but I found the HP classes most useful.

HP
Mar 26, 2006 8:21AM PST

Will check that out. Why go to HP?
For me the best tutorial is the Adobe tutorial contained in your version.
In place of a tutorial, why not just ask members here on the CNET Graphics Forum a question?
I am sure there are a number here to help out in many ways.
A tutorial is only that. A simple way to understand it and familiarize yourself with one aspect of photoshop.

What happens in the real world?
After you have gone through all the tutorials. Come here.
Post away your questions.
