IMHO, its a good show to watch and learn and understand what can happen in adverse conditions. It does have some limitations, but overall, a dang good show. -----Willy

Some lonely guy with his cameras trekking across the snow with a sled and not much to eat. I got a kick out of his igloo. I think anyone could have done better. Disappointed he didn't get a seal.

and I have more respect for survivorman than man vs wild because survivorman does it all himself. he carries all his equipment and sets up his own shots often doing thing multiple times to get the shots.

something else to look for is a show about a man that goes to live by a lake in Alaska. he builds his own cabin and lives off the land for like 40 years. I can't remember the mans name nor the name of the show but it is very interesting.

I think it may be this:

Alone in the Wilderness on DVD and VHS tape
**** Proenneke retired at age 50 in 1967 and decided to build his own cabin on the shore of Twin Lakes. The first summer he scouted for the best cabin site, and cut and peeled the logs he would need for his cabin. **** Proenneke returned the next summer to finish the cabin where he lived for over 30 years. **** filmed his adventures, and Bob Swerer later turned the film into a video so we can all watch this amazing man build his cabin by hand.

It was a great show. Everyone should view it. Great scenery and the commentary was good too, lots of homilies in it. He had his food supply in a shed built way up on 4 tree trunks to keep it away from marauding bears. I think they turned his cabin into some sort of little museum as I recall. I would watch it all over again if it came on. Those pin hinges on his door were interesting, and how he fashioned them and all the other necessities.

I saw the other fella that build his cabin and all in Alaska on PBS, then got the DVD from the library. I really liked what the fellow did considering all that from scratch. I understand, his home is now a public park or park tourist attraction. It was good viewing, sadly he passed away. -----Willy
