there r many reasons for that. but here is something i will do to increas the sucess rate.
1. update your network adapter drivers as they become available.
2. sometimes, adding a switch in the middle and use reg cable may help.
3. are ur computers up to date with microsoft update?
4. free of virus/trojan/spyware??
I have a cross cable link networking my Laptop and Desktop, both Win98SE. I have had no problem transferring files between the 2.
A couple of days back, I was trying to transfer some video files (avi) from the laptop to the desktop.
Quite a few attempts were made, and in each attempt, about 30% of the file got transferred with an failure message "...not able to access the resources...".
The avi file plays fine on the laptop AND on the desktop reading from the network. But no transfer.
I finally solved it using VirtualDub to open the file from the network and saved it as a new avi file in the desktop. (Audio & Video Direct Stream Copy - just FoI).
Any ideas as to why a simple plain transfer failed?
