The problem is that with dual layer recorders falling past 89 bucks, the diagnostic equipment will cost more than the replacement drive. Also, if the new recorder works, unless the old drive is under warranty, repair is not being offered for less than a new drive.
Painful. Isn't it?
I am using a cheap DVD+-R with some cheap DVD media. I am aware that that may be the problem. I am simply burning data. I have been using Nero6 and Roxio 7. The burning works until about halfway through, and then an error says that it fails. I think it might be the DVD burning laser. Are there any diagnostic tools that can test whether the laser is working correctly?
