Anti-Virus question an recycle bin question

First I have a Windows Xp. I use to be able to run the anti virus program in safe mode..I had avast and that didn't run in safe mode either..Now I have Avg which use to run in safe mode and that's not running either..The second question is ..Sometimes when I delete some files into the recycle bin and then go back to retrieve them or restore them..they aren't there but the recycle bin icon is showing items in there..How do I get them back if I can't restore them out of the recycle bin..Thank You

you said "they aren't there but the recycle bin icon is showing items in there."

The article is about "Recycle Bin is empty but still shows files icon'

Your recycle bin "is empty" and it shows "files being there"

The same thing?

Did you put your mouse over the link in my first post and left click?
