Anti Virus for Windows 7 Home

Jan 14, 2015 9:56AM PST

I gave up on Windows back in the 90's and became a happy Mac user. Now I am putting 7 Home on my iMac and I need a good Anti Virus program. For the simple work I will be doing I think all I need is a good free program. Is Microsofts Security Essentials still available or what does anyone suggest?
Thanks, Bill

If you can't find MSE, it must be gone. There are good free antivirus like Avast and AVG but the #1 protection is still you.

I do add Web Of Trust and Adblock+ to my browsers too.

AV for Widows 7 Home

Thanks all!
I have an ancient Think Pad that I used to take to work that ran MSE, so I am glad that it's still kicking around. Also had Malwarebytes which I always thought was an excellent malware hunter! Thanks, Bill

Major download product key problem
Jan 15, 2015 2:20AM PST

So I had to get 8.1 instead of 7..(I will post this proble in the "8" forum as well...
I went through the Partitian process until I came up with the screen for the product code.
It wants xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx 25 digits, 5 each, excluding dashes
My 8.1 product code reads xxxxxxxxxx-x-xxxxxxx-xxxx It's only 22 digits and no matter how I try to do it, I can't advance...I'm guessing because it's the wrong numeric pattern????
Need Help, Bill

The thing is

There are so many issues with this from which bootcamp, to the BCA to model support. Apple's own forum would be best.

8.1
Jan 15, 2015 3:53AM PST

A little complicated but doable, however my notes from Apple and on the phone strongly urge downloading from a full version DVD as opposed to downloading. On the phone they said "too many things can go wrong" and that If I deal with Microsoft, they should provide a proper PC......Right now I am going to go back to Best Buy for a chat.....
Thanks

8.1 install solved!
Jan 15, 2015 6:51AM PST

Went back to Best Buy. My box not only had no Product Key but no "We
Come to Microsoft" Introductory Booklet, just the two DVDs. What is funny or sad....Is that the last time I downloaded any program disk from Microsoft was about 15 years ago.......when they used to put the product code on the side of the box. Best Buy was very surprised and gave me another box and $25 gift certificate so I was happy enough and now install is in the final stage of personalization and settings....now I have to install AV. Will probably do MSE for now thanks all. Will use the windows 8 forum now! Thanks, Bill

Hi, you go ahead and try using the MSE (microsoft security essential) or AVAST. Both are good in performance. You can go ahead and try any.

AVAST DOWNLOAD

MSE DOWNLOAD

MSE is the best

MSE is the best choice but if you found any issue with it. Go for Avast or AVG as they have some extra features than MSE.
