Another 'Which web host?' question

by dankrubis / June 22, 2011 7:01 AM PDT

I want to make a website. What I'm looking for- I want to build a snarky, pop-culture-skewering site a la TWOP. Pictures, mostly text, a video every once in a while. Essentially a blog, but I don't want to go with wordpress or blogger, I'd rather have control and ownership of the content.

This web hosting business is scary. I type in 'top web hosting' in
google and the first 50 pages are all scam review sites promoting web
hosts probably by the very web hosts themselves. Not the kind of
businesses I want to give my money to.

Now I'm paranoid that everything review and forum post I read is actually some paid salesman of XYZ company trying to hook me into buying their crappy product.

I know GoDaddy is legit, but I've read on here that they're kinda crappy. I've seen Host Gator thrown around as reputable and pretty excellent, but that was one of the companies I saw on those OMG-BEST-WEB-HOSTING-IN-THE-UNIVERSE-I-SWEAR-WE'RE-LEGIT-NO-SRSLY-DOT-COM sites.

So. My question. What's a reliable, reputable, cheap, easy-to-use web host? And I apologize in advance for even asking, I normally research this stuff, but google has a knife to its throat for this particular topic.

Oop, there's a review section on this site for web hosting.
by dankrubis / June 22, 2011 7:15 AM PDT

So I just found a review section for web hosting on this very site. I'm going to scour it, but I'm still a little weary. There's a lot of the same sites I saw on those scam review sites (like bluehost, ipage, fat cow, inmotion, etc.). So maybe these sites are reliable and cheap but not reputable?

Well, I'm gonna go read, but please feel free to throw out any suggestions!

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
