Another Software Problem with CD Programs

Apr 12, 2005 5:45PM PDT

Installing CD Creater 7.0 and Nero together on the same HD running Windows XP will cause BIG problems. Depending on which one is installed first only one tells you to remove the other. The result of installing the two will repartition your Hard Drive. 1/3 becomes a N/O system and other 2/3 remains in tack. I had trouble getting the two partitions to merge, I had to fdisk several times to accomplish this. After it happened the second time I found out what caused it. I almost had to throw my new hard drive away.
Has anyone installed these 2 programs together and had the same problem??? Anyone have any idea why CD software would cause the drive partition to split?

" Anyone have any idea why CD software would cause the drive partition to split? "

Only this. For many years it's been known you should choose one or the other. You've verified again why such advice is handed out.

CD drive partition..???
Apr 15, 2005 6:11AM PDT

Bob and xmike: I mentioned this to a techie friend of mine and he says there is a trojan going around that can cause this. I should think it would be worth doing a scan just in case.

Follow-Up
Apr 17, 2005 2:02PM PDT

The hard drive was formatted and repartitioned each time that this happened and a Anti Virus was used before and it is now being used on my machine. It appeared using Fdisk that the first time it happened it wipe out the Operating System sectors. After cleaning the disk (Formating,Partitioning) I reversed the order of installment of the programs looking for the problem. The slice this time was on the other side of the main partition, according to Fdisk. This time it booted in WinXP but in properties the disk was smaller in size. So I came to the conclusion they were resposible when installed together. It is really strange, but they both work well on seperate machines.
Thanks for all the feedback, Terrie, Bob and etc.
I was just curious .......

Thanks again,

Have both Nero and Easy with no problems
Apr 20, 2005 4:48PM PDT

Have both Nero 5.5 and Roxio Easy CD/DVD 6.0 installed with no problems.
I used the TOOL section of SpyBot to disable all the boot start ups for both programs. (I find the SpyBot TOOLS>START UP more convient than msconfig.)
Never had a problem and both programs run OK when needed.
