Another Question About Burning DVD'S

Apr 1, 2006 10:36AM PST

I have:

Windows XP Home
Pentium 4 2.0
512 Memory
120 gig HD
LiteOn LTR 24102 DVD/ROM
Matshita DVD/ROM SR8587

I hope this is not a dumb question but I am trying to learn all I can. With the above equiptment can I burn a copy of a DVD that I made on my seperate VCR/DVD Unit?

Or will I have to purchase a seperate DVD Burner for my computer? Thanks again for your wonderful help and suggestions.

Your computer cannot burn a DVD because it lacks a

burner. ROM stands for "Read Only Memory" which means it cannot write.

Seperate DVD Burner
Apr 2, 2006 12:18AM PST

So if I buy a seperate (not inside the computer) dvd burner and attach it through the usb cable I would be able to copy the dvd's made on my dvd/vcr unit?

If that is the case any suggestions on which unit would be best and easy to install? Thank you for bearing with me and my simple questions.

One Other Thought and Question on my DVD's
Apr 2, 2006 3:38AM PDT

I have problems playing DVD'S (movies that I taped from Satellite and burned to DVD) on my computer. But my computer will play commerical DVD'S that I get from the library. Does this make any sense?

So far my computer will only play the 2 DVD'S that I made up of seperate musical clips from old tv shows that I had on VHS?

Is this crazy?

Yes, you can use a UDB attached external burner. I assume

it will be USB 2.

The Satellite video probably has DRM to keep you from recording it to DVD.

What is DRM?

What is DRM? I think you mean that Direct TV has some kind of copy protection to prevent me from recording off of satellite? I videotape from satellite now with no problem.

DRM is Digital Rights Management, and, you are correct, it

is copy protection. Being able to record on VHS does not mean there is no DRM involved.
