Another memory compatibility Question

Jan 29, 2005 1:15AM PST

I was just given an old Gateway from a relative. I want to put it downstairs for my daughter to use for school projects, instant messaging ect. It currently has a 64mb PC100 168pin memory card with an additional two slots for upgrading. I searched this forum to see if a 256mb pc133 168pin card would work (I was going in this direction for cost and availability purposes). All indications were that it would, but when I checked the specs on a PNY memory card it stated the following - "Important notice from PNY: PC133 Modules are NO LONGER backward compatible with PC100 Machines". Can anyone tell me if this a brand-specific condition or are they just covering their hind-ends in case something goes wrong? I could just get a PC100 card but I, like most, am trying to get the most bang for the buck. Thanks for any info you can provide Happy
