I?m still trying to figure the best laptop for my needs and budget I can find in Canada?I found a HP Pavilion dv1040ca with a more attractive price (1300 USD) but with some less popular specifications. It seems to have a remote control, I wonder if it could be used for PowerPoint presentations. Could you please comment on this model, what would be the performance, could I use it for my purposes? It is a Centrino, isn?t it? Why Intel didn?t put it on the list among the others processors with Centrino technology?
I hope you could help me.
Marie

Dear all,
I?m looking for buying my first laptop. I do have a desktop at home and one at my office but since I?ll graduate this year I would need a laptop. I?ll use it essentially for Office applications (teaching with PowerPoint) but also simulations with Matlab and editing with SWP. I also need it for traveling to Europe from time to time. I?m living in Montreal and I find very few choices compared to States. After reading on the net, I wanted a HP/Compaq but I cannot find a Centrino here. Canadian site of HP does not allow customization. I don?t know much about laptops so for the moment I would greatly need your opinion about an IBM I can find from school shop at about 2000 USD (international warranty 3 years) ? a lot more than I would like to spend but still interested if quality justifies it... Here are the specifications listed on the site. Could you please give me your opinion? I know it?s kind of a silly question but I really need some specialized advice.
Thank you very much in advance,
Marie
PS I can find a Dell but I find it rather expensive when customized. I would not buy a Toshiba.
