Another font question...

Sep 28, 2005 1:29AM PDT

I recently installed a 30 day demo copy of Adobe InDesign for a class I'm taking on my 1.2 ghz 12 inch iBook.

The class involves taking pre-existing files that were included with the text and demo program... opening them up, and doing the class exercises.

I originally opened up the exercise files on the winbox in the classroom and keep them on a USB thumb drive. I then move back and forth from the classroom computer to my iBook at home to do the activities. On some of these files I get a dialog box when I open them up on the mac stating that I have missing fonts DESPITE the fact that other adobe programs on my apple use the same fonts with no problem.

Is this an issue of my originally opening these files on a PC... could the thumb drive be corrupted... is it cross platform incompatability... or is it that I am using a demo copy of the program. I can live with this but I'm always curious as to why things like this happen.

Also another issue... This class will last well into December but the demo program only lasts 30 days. Since I work during the day and take classes at night I don't really have time to go to the computer labs at campus (an hours drive from work and 40 minutes from home-man gasoline is killing me) and find myself doing homework at midnight to keep up. On OS 10.3.9... if I throw away the application file for indesign and do a SECURE EMPTY TRASH... will the iBook allow me to reload the demo program for another 30 days?

"another 30 days?"

Forum policy FORBIDS assisting anyone in breaking their agreements. But a wipe of the hard disk and reinstall of the OS plus applications makes it look like a new demo. Even that helpful hint may be forbidden.

Here's the proper way around it. Call Adobe and ask for the extension.

Thank you Bob and sorry.

I knew it was an iffy question but I had to ask and since it was for school I hoped everyone would understand. I also know about the reformatting but it is a pain considering all the time and updates along with the after-market software to reload as well. If I do take that route I guess it will be time to upgrade to Tiger and with a valid college ID I can legitimately get the school discount !

It's weird being back in school... I've got an ex-stepdaughter who is a sophomore and I'm a freshman again. I told her that if she gives me too much grief that I will hit on her friends. LOL. That keeps her from dissing the old man too much. Doesn't stop her though. Ce la vie !

I wish I were in your shoes to be able to do what you want to accomplish right now in your life.
My wife did just that same thing and earned two degrees, at about the same age. It took her four years to accomplish that while still working days. She also graduated Magna *** Laud.
Grim, Best of luck in your endeavors. Maybe you will graduate Suma *** Laud. Probably!
