'Anonymous' P2P users busted in Japan

Dec 3, 2003 5:03PM PST

Japanese police have arrested two users of the supposedly anonymous Winny peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing network, and raided the home of Winny's developer. The two users, Katsuhiko Kimotoa, 41, and an unnamed 19-year old from Matsuyama, were arrested on charges of distributing a pirated film ("A Beautiful Mind" starring Russell Crowe) and pirated computer games. Police have also shut down a website offering Winny for download. Winny has around 250,000 users.
