Question

Android to TV

Sep 10, 2016 12:11PM PDT

We are an older couple who are not into Netflix but it seems that Android (rather than Roku) is our better choice for broadening the range of television offerings without the maddening duplication of Cable. We live in Canada if that makes a difference.
I am not totally inept technologically speaking however I am not looking to build a super entertainment facility since we do not watch much television. Quite frankly, if it works out, I would drop the cable company.
I am looking at the [2016 new arrivals] J-DEAL® M8 Fully Loaded KODI Quad Core Android 4.4 Smart Set Top TV Box + Free Remote Keyboard available on Amazon Canada and would really appreciate impressions and thoughts.

Many thanks
Denis

If you currently have any Android phone or tablet you will know there isn't much content. It's also too techy for most. I will not write this is a good deal.

Here I use my Amazon FireTV and Netflix. It's OK and I haven't had cable TV for over 6 years. I did add an antenna to my TV.

roku has the most offerings

roku has the most offerings when it comes to tv streaming boxes unless you want the other add features on that android device. In addition a lot of channels will require a cable subscription or monthly payment in order to watch. I found a lot of the free channels have more commercial breaks that regular tv. Finally the android streaming or any other for that matter will kill any data caps your internet service providers have. So be prepared to pay extra to watch your shows.

Personally I cut the cord years ago and don't regret it. I hooked a computer up to each tv and watch my shows that way. It has the added advantage of browsing the web during the slow parts of the movie/tv show. Which is what I am doing now. Listening to netflix and typing this post on the living room tv while laid back in a nice comfortable recliner. fortunately I do not have a data cap - yet, or I would be in a lot of trouble.
