Many have CellBrite data transfer boxes that sometimes can get it out.
These forums are full of folk that don't backup and want their data. It appears folk must learn this lesson rather than heed the advice?

The screen on my Samsung phone is completely busted (LCD is broken and screen is totally black) and though I was able to get a new phone and recover photos/files, I did not have my contacts backed up. Is there any way for me to connect the phone to my Mac and somehow recover the contacts that way? Or any other solutions to recovering the contacts? Thank you!
