Android Questions

by usrockband / August 16, 2011 1:12 AM PDT

Hey guys,Looking into buying an Android, but with 4.0 coming out soon I'm a little hesitant to buy an android right now with 2.3 gingerbread out, unless I can update the OS (like one could with an iPhone) on an Android. Is that possible though?

Let's say 4.0 arrives. Will you fret that 4.1 will be coming out soon and can you update to that?

I bet you will.

There is no "Android" to be bought today. I looked and found products like cell phones that run an Android OS but those units are tightly controlled and the cellular provider determines when and if a new Android OS will be released on that phone.

Not to duplicate all that has been written about this but cell phones are not PCs so we can't install what version we want unless you find some forum that covers "rooting" and more.

Should've been clearer. Getting an HTC Evo 3D. Ipod's and iPhones can update their opperating systems (i.e iOS 4 to iOS 5 which is coming soon). Can Android phones do the same thing with say 2.3 to 4.0? Im simply curious....

No.

Here's why. Apple's ecosystem is vastly different. Apple decides when a new OS is available and not he carriers.

In the case of the Android ecosystem, the carriers maintain control of what OS is fielded and when or if an update is going out.

Again, to get around this you find forums about rooting and more.

I hope this clears this area up for you.

One of the best French door fridges we've tested

A good-looking fridge with useful features like an auto-filling water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It was a near-flawless performer in our cooling tests.
