Question

Android phones campatible with Safelink

Dec 9, 2015 11:12PM PST

I have been approved for free minutes from Safelink and they did send me a free phone; however, I'm disabled and need my cell phone to have GPS because I've just moved and get lost without it. I have been on the computer for days, have bought a phone that didn't tell me it was not compatible with Safelink until I received it.
Anyway, does any one know of a not-too-expensive Android phone that is compatible with Safelink?

I think the best source for that information is Safelink customer service. They either have a list of recommended phones or can tell you the requirements for your new phone, so you can take those into account.

Why wasn't it compatible?

I appreciate your response to my question. I have spoken with a CSR at Safelink, who assured me that I could "upgrade" my phone. This was in the beginning, when I was REALLY stupid and believed him. You see, I knew the free phone they were sending me wouldn't do what I needed so I contacted the CSR to get a jump on things before I received the phone. I have since been all over the internet looking for one of those "upgrade phones" to use with Safelink. Some of them are up front and say right on their ad that the phone is not compatible with Safelink. That's fine, it's the ones that don't say that...until you buy it and read the fine, gray print in the manual, that you cannot use this phone with any other carrier than WHOMEVER THEY ARE that really tick me off. Can you tell?

Thanks for taking the time to try to help.

If you don't know no more than "it has to be compatible with Safelink" and you don't know what that means and you can't even communicate effectively with their customer service, searching on the Internet is certainly not the right way for you to buy a phone.

So better find a telecom shop with a sales assistant that can help you to buy the right one. Visiting the shop yourself, so they can set it up for you after you bought it, is the best. Contacting such a shop by phone clearly is second choice, but with some luck might work.

Im hoping you found a compatible phone by now but just incase anyone else needs this info...you can go buy any Tracphone , the Dollar stores and Walmart carries them and then all you need to do is call Safelink and transfer your safelink account to any Tracfone. Im a Safelink street team agent and thats what alot of my customers end up doing because its not really easy texting on these small Safe link phones!

I bought a tracphone, but returned it before opening the pac
Dec 3, 2016 9:42PM PST

Hello, Is there any particular tracphone that I should buy? I bought one recently, got home and read the back of the packaging and it stated right on the package that it was NOT compatible with use/upgrading a Safelink phone

I just called them and they told me ANY trac fon can be transferred to safelink. So I guess when I go and buy a trac fon that I will read the back since safelink customer service is a bunch of IDIOTS. I want a smart fon so I can get the electronic coupons at the store. I'm having a terrible time finding a smart fon that's compatible with safelink. What a pain.
If you know of a smart fon that is affordable and can be used with safelink, please let us know.
It is such a pain being poor and sick and old. Why do they have to make it so complicated for us.

All Straight Talk phones are compatible with Safelink...I buy one every year. You don't need a sim card either, just have them switch your service to your new phone.

Net10 or Tracfone
Jan 1, 2018 7:42PM PST

I was told any net10 or tracfone phone will work however it is easier with net10. I purchased an Lg Premier for my dad from tracfone. It DID take some time (a week in total!) and a lot of bs but in the end we just got it all worked out. Only thing is watch out if they say you first have to purchase an airtime card; they kept telling us that, and then say there was an error. We were charged 5 times for the airtime which was refunded. When we finally talked to someone who knew what they were doing, we didn’t even have to purchase airtime. Huge Thank you to Jayvee, the kind lady who ended up getting the phone switched over in the end. Had we not spoke to her Idk if we ever would have got this thing working. Nevertheless in the end it CAN be done.

Have to agree. Not seeing it.

Phones come and go so quickly PLUS you have other issues like bans from certain governments and now a tariff tiff. If you feel Safelink should do this, be sure to tell them so.
