Question

Android 1 USB tethering

Jan 24, 2015 11:38PM PST

I was trying to connect my Micromax andriod 1 mobile to my Dell Windows XP laptop. I seem to have pressed some option after which I got a message that ther is problem with USB. Since then the USB tethering option is not available. Ther is no problem with the cable or the port as it works for another mobile. How do i resolve it ?

The phone or the laptop is not recognising the USB connection for this particular handset.

Answer
So many hurdles.

1. XP. You wrote XP and not more. XP has issues that may be insurmountable. XP SP3 all patched up and I would have not noted this.

2. I've used EasyTether for years. The setup is a little hard on folk but it works. What's hard? Folk don't know to install the phone's USB device driver and sometimes there is no such driver.

3. The XP install could be bum. I run into this all the time. Folk appear to have no interest in how to install Windows today.

problem is with handset
Jan 25, 2015 2:15AM PST

@Bob, problem is not with the laptop, the windows XP version, the ports or the cable. I hv another similar android 1 handset which can get connected to the laptop with the same cable. Even in the problem handset the charging of the handset is functioning with the same cable. Problem is the 'usb tethering' option is not available in the handset. It shows that 'USB not connected'. Hence the option is not highlighted for selection

Then it's the handset.

There are USB cables that charge but have trouble with data transfer. You've got a tar pit of issues to deal with so my advice is going to be hard to accept. Get it working with another laptop first. Then you can work back to your XP without SP3(?) system. I don't expect this to work without a fully updated XP.

Also, I don't see where you offered anywhere about the cell phone's driver that I'm having to install to get EasyTether working.

In parting EasyTether just updated to BlueTooth (BT) tethering. Less painful for me. It worked great but I have a rather current Lenovo.
