... and Trump thinks he has troubles ...

It's as if the FBI raided Tea Leoni's office.

The article is well written and fair AFAIK. Also informative, for those with any interest in the largest group in world Christendom. As you read, remember that the Vatican is a sovereign nation, not a "church". Any country can have such problems from time to time. Myself, I had thought the worst was over, but perhaps not. (The "progress" reported under Francis is correct.)

Jesus was never the leader of a nation of the world. That keeps him out of such trouble. His "Vicar" long ago chose another path to influence, which has and does put his organization in harm's way.

anti-christ, using accurate bible greek meaning of the word, actually means a "christ likeness", or a "pretender christ", an archetype. Means "in the place of..." "instead of", "for" "in exchange". Remember, Christ warned the disciples of those who would "come in his name" meaning pretenders to the throne. "Vicar of Christ" sure fits that description.

physically or geographically.
That's as relevant as anything else.

Vicar is related to vice, as in vice president; instead-of-president.
Under Caesar's law, the vice president can do most if not all presidential functions while the top man is incapacitated. Only the Constitution or a higher authority can create or modify that. Not a factor here; the Higher Authority has not done so.
"Vicar of Christ" is entirely a man made title. The head of an organization can adopt that title, as here, but at his own risk, as here. Sets up the officeholder for a bigger fall.

Jesus' banker caused him some trouble also. Different circumstances of course.
