Rant

And so it begins

and it figures that it would start in Obama/Manuel territory....

http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2018/03/08/illinois-house-passes-bill-requiring-18-20-year-olds-hand-assault-weapons/

It doesn't seem to matter in the least that it was the Obama/Holder rules that put schools in the position of 'don't report problem kids to law enforcement' because they wanted good records of stopping the 'school to prison' pipeline. And it doesn't seem to matter that, especially, women who live alone and are under 21 won't have their own protection available anymore.

Of course, being NPR you may reject it.

Founded in NY

"Started by Union officers upset over Civil War recruits' poor shooting skills
That inception dates back almost to the Civil War and two former Union officers, who had despaired over their wartime recruits' poor shooting skills. (An official study estimated that Yankee troops fired 1,000 rounds for every bullet that actually struck a Confederate soldier.)

The idea was to educate a new generation of marksmen, whether for war or hunting or recreational target shooting."

And another...

"As TIME’s Richard Lacayo explained in a 1990 feature about the group, “The N.R.A. was founded in 1871 by a group of former Union Army officers dismayed that so many Northern soldiers, often poorly trained, had been scarcely capable of using their weapons.”

The operative words in this bill are “commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms" and "The bill also requires 18-20-year-olds to forfeit ownership of any magazines that hold more than ten rounds of ammunition" and "The push to force 18-20 year olds to give up the enumerated semiautomatic firearms is now under consideration by the Illinois Senate.....and let's not forget the heading/banner:  Illinois Bill Requiring 18-20-Year-Olds to Hand Over Certain Semi-Automatic Firearms Moves to Senate

Since over 80% of the firearms sold legally in this country are considered to be semi-automatic, you are talking about a massive number of guns that would be illegal to own within the next 90 days in Illinois (like the gangs and thugs are gonna give a crap), and the list actually includes reproduction type historical guns (will museums be required to give up ownership as well?).  One of the bills actually makes it illegal for someone from another State keeping their weapon that they legally own and have permits for, including concealed carry, for any longer than 24 hours.

Take a look at the bills involved....there are actually three of them.  https://www.nraila.org/articles/20180227/illinois-gun-control-bills-to-be-heard-on-house-floor

Like I said.....people will either revolt or move out of the State and leave it to the already over abundance of criminals.....Have fun traveling around your city, BO and Oprah....oh, wait....YOU HAVE ARMED SECURITY........

Disarm gun loving righties.

They are coming after your guns Toni....a little piece at a time.

It can be done on a state level but that leads to a hodge podge.

What's needed is a base level from the feds.

States can add to it but no state can subtract from it.

Folks need to get it out of their head that they have a right to own a gun.

Yes it is.
Gun lovers have bought into the NRA reading of the 2nd amendment.

Perhaps things are starting to change.

I doubt immigrants come to this country so they can own a gun.

right to be armed, backed up by Jesus
Mar 10, 2018 12:36PM PST

His disciples didn't have permission to be armed under the Roman rule of Judea, but Jesus made it plain that right came not from the Romans, but from God Himself. This is why He, Jesus was "counted among the transgressors", not as from God, but by the Romans. No stronger point could have been made to reiterate the right that comes from God Himself.

There are other viewpoints where they want to justify preconceived notions and fail to realize that one can have Love and also be armed for defense, both of self, and family, and righteous friends.

I can understand the need for that when we had no national army and every state had it's own army.

How does that apply today?

Are you part of some state army?

If the fed confiscated all civilian guns how would that effect a states national guard?

I don't think members of a state national guard supply their own guns.

When the stuff imagined by the alt-right and others comes down, none of us 99% will have any say or any control. We'll have Jehovah or nothing. That's what I get from the Bible. That's what I tell others.

I'm going to assume that you are talking about the wording 'well armed militia' when you refer to the NRA 'reading'.............you DO know that SCOTUS was challenged on that years ago and ruled that 'militia' means 'individuals', and that we DO have every right to own our guns WITHOUT infringement by ANY government.

Right
Mar 10, 2018 9:09PM PST

The 2nd gives you the right to own a gun.

I don't see anything in the 2nd that says what guns.

So if I outlaw all guns except for .22 that would maintain your right.

Are you ok with that?

SCOTUS was correct a militia is made up of people.

What is the purpose of this militia today?

What is well armed?
