I'd not get too hung up on Wavepad. Get it recording first then work on getting the app of choice working.
Here I can use some USB Soundcard (examples at https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Electronics-External-Sound-Cards/zgbs/electronics/3015427011 ) if the audio jacks on the laptop doesn't work out.
Then for software I try Audacity since it's free and plenty of forums on its use.
I'm not there to see all the menus and more of the software so I can't see if there's a choice not tried.
I'm not even sure I am in the right place, but here goes.
My problem is this : I have a wizard little recording MD. I would like to transfer the content of my discs to Wavepad on my Dell Laptop. I am looking to create a WAV.file.
When I bought the unit, it came with some bells and whistles. One is obviously the powered mic, but I also have a piece of hardware marked as Xitel MD-PORT DG2. This unit came with what appears to be proper cordage, with a jack that seems to fit the only line out available (headphone jack) and my line in port is USB.
It all looks beautiful, but the primaries just aren't talking to each other. Any constructive (and hopefully inexpensive) ideas/fixes ?\
