Seems like it. Why the other CRT projection TV works is they pamper the old signal to make it look as good as it can be. The LCD unit just runs the signal into a digitizer without a lot of fancy software or hardware and all the warts show up.
There are two reasons for this. One is that it would add costs to the LCD display to an area that isn't important to those that are using HDTV. Second is that you run afoul of patents on the signal cleanup and amplifies the issue in item one.
I know this doesn't fix your issue, but it may help you understand the mess.

I'm bummed, we just bought a 30" Sharp LCD and DVD quality on it is fantastic but our standard (non HD) cable quality is horrible. It is much worse than it is on our 50" Rear projection TV.
Could someone please confirm whether or not a regular, non HD, cable signal should look really bad on a 30" LCD? I had heard that it wouldn't be great, but it's MUCH worse than on our other CRT projection TV.
I wondered if there was something wrong with the TV, but DVDs look great, even with my old school non progressive scan DVD player.
If it matters, we have Comcast and I have the cable going straight into the tv, no replaytv or anything like that in the loop.
Am I going nuts? Is this a configuration / user problem? Or am I going to have to start over with my TV search?
Thx,
Rich
