What I'm using.

No USB, sorry. I connect my old camcorder to the DVD recorder, press record on the DVD recorder then play on my camcorder. Since each tape is about 30 minutes I set my DVD recorder to it's best recording quality.

Now that I have digitized the content I can use the the .VOB files from the DVD. These are MPEG 2 files so either you get a MPEG 2 capable editor (very few are) or use SUPER from http://www.erightsoft.net/SUPER.html

No. I never edit the DVDs. Those are my 'source material.'

No cable
Feb 16, 2009 1:54AM PST

So there is no cable in existance that has an S-video plug on one side, and a USB on the other? I do not have a dvd recorder, Im just startting out on making short films to take up some of my free time, but Its really hard to edit on the video camera itself, so i downloaded Magix, and want to use that for editing, but so far, I cant figure out a way to transfer the media...

But didn't like the quality and other issues. My new solution cost less than one dazzle.

What model is that ?

I find it hard to believe there are no AV plugs and only S-servo, which is video only.

Model

The model No. I see on the instructions say CCD-TRV----AC-L
It came with a cord to plug into the tv and watch the movies on your television, but no usb....I soppose I could use it to record on a VCR, but them I'd have to buy an expensive converter to put it on the computer, and it would also mess with the quality

The model number should be on the camcorder...if not on the body, on a plate on the underside(it seems to be an early digital model using the old Hi8 or digital8 tapes ... Have you tried pluggin the cable to the VCR AV inputinstead of the TV ? Connect the TV to the AV output of the VCR...so the TV monitors what the VCR from the camcorder. I do not think you need other software, nor having to go through a computer ....if all you want to do is to record on VHS ...

Also, with the camcorder plugged to the TV to watch movies, you can connect the VCR to the output terminals of the TV to record what is shown on the TV ...

This is the manual for the camcorder: LINK

The TRV88 is a analogue model using Hi8 tapes. The manual indicates that an AV cable is available (item no 5). For transfering to computer, you need a AV capture card (analogue to digital) installed on the computer and use the AV cable supplied to make the connections. Software supplied with the video capture card will enable you to "capture" the vodeo footage...Otherwise, you need to connect the camcorder to a DVD recorder using the AV cable supplied.... make a DVD of the video then use the DVD on the computer...Forget about the "S" cable... Refer to page 32 of the manual (Watching the video on TV) and page 50 (Dubbing to tape) for ideas of how to make the connections. I suggest that you study the manual, which seems very detailed.

no matter

no matter what you do, the quality will drop when you put it on teh computer. plus it a hi8 cam so its not like the quality is amazing as it is. i have a sony ccd-trv308 and theres not much of a quality difference between mpeg2 from the dazzle and when i import it in over firewire
