The world is flat neatly ignores issues such as patent laws and how the FCC controls the RF bands. The skies are not free. If you want to learn about the control of communications you'll have to read deeper than this book. I think you should also read about the onerous German telecom laws. Not long ago people went to jail over hooking up "unauthorized" modems to get to the internet. This is within the last decade.
Are you thinking the patent system needs an overhaul?
hey everybody i am a big fan of open sourcing and the results that came from that such as linux, firefox etc. i recently finsihed reading this book THE WORLD IS FLAT by Thomas Friedman and he speaks of open sourcing and i have come up with a vague idea of new open sourcing ideas, one about an open source cellular service. I dont know if this is has been thought of and is being put to use but i think this could be a next step. a service that actually listens to the public and could alter what they dislike about their cell phones and service. I put thought into this especially after apple failed to listen to customers suggestions for the 3G iphone such as multi media messaging. If anybody has info on anything relating to an open source service please reply
