Amplified splitter ques

I currently have one HD tv set and 3 standard def sets. I have one cable modem. It is currently split in the basement where the cable comes in. I have a 2 way splitter into a 4 way (5 splits). I recently installed another cable line for another modem. This will now require me to purchase another splitter to add the 6th split. While out shopping, a few sales people suggested I get an amplified splitter. Is this a worthwhile purchase or should I just purchase a 3 way and four way? All the tv's look fine now but I will need to add one cable modem line.
Thanks for any help here

Either I am confused or you are...

I associate modem with the internet and cable box with tv services. Amplified splitter works best with your tv box (get it from your cable operator), I think they have the best and sometime it's free. As for internet, maybe you should think about using a router.

my personal experience

In reply to: Amplified splitter ques

i have 3 tv's each with a digital cable box hooked up in my house with cable internet.

i had a coax "amp" that i got from radio shack 10 years ago plugged into a 3 way splitter which goes into my tvs and a splitter in my room splitting another signal for the cable modem. i was unable to get ondemand and any digital signals.

i got rid of the amp. i got rid of the 3way splitter. i got a 2.5ghz 3 way splitter from bby made by acoustic research. now i get ondemand at the same time on all 3 tv's while i am downloading stuff online. i personally think those kind of amps are overrated...and a high quality spliter will do the trick. try it out.

That is what I thought. I went to Tweeter, a high end electronics store out here in Mass, but they were all out due to the holidays.

Thanks for your help.

DC pass through

In reply to: my personal experience

I just purchased a splitter which I thought was 4 way but is only a 3 way. The fourth outlet says DC Passs through. What is this for?
Thanks

Maybe you can use the 4th port!

In reply to: DC pass through

The splitter you bought has a DC pass through to be used with satellite dish receivers, the receiver sends 24 volts DC to power the LNB on the dish. John

Thanks John I have

I actually plugged my cable modem into this port and it works fine. I don't think I am doing any harm.
