Question

AMD FX 9800P or something faster?

Mar 17, 2018 8:08PM PDT

Hello, I am looking to get an HP envy X360 with the FX 9800p processor, 8gb ram, 1TB HD. I plan on doing light to medium video editing, using adobe premier, as well as photo editing using adobe light room and Photoshop. I also will be using Microsoft office 365 using spreadsheets, and power points, as well as lots of web surfing and video streaming on YouTube. Would this processor be a good fit for these activities or would I need something a bit more powerful? I was looking at the Ryzen 5 but I found I could save about 300 bucks with the same Laptop with the FX 9800P.

Thanks for the help

I think ASUS builds out better laptops than HP.

I bought the ASUS FX550IU-WSFX 15.6" Full HD Gaming Laptop, AMD FX-9830P Quad Core Processor (3.0 GHz), AMD Radeon RX 460 Graphics 4 GB VRAM, 128 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD, 8 GB DDR4 Memory from Newegg for $699.

I really like the ASUS ROG GL702ZC-WB74 17.3" AMD Ryzen 7 1700 (3.00 GHz) AMD Radeon RX 580 16 GB Memory 256 GB SSD 1 TB HDD Windows 10 Home 64-Bit Gaming Laptop for $1499 also at Newegg. With the RX 580 some crypto mining would be possible too.

While both monitors and keyboards are satisfactory, I would still use a 28"+ FreeSync monitor at my desk. I use mine for AutoCAD and watching movies on the go and I am perfectly happy with it.
