amd asus model mother board

May 1, 2004 12:34PM PDT

this question is about daul channel ddr. i have been looking for information about my board ( http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=A7N8X-X&langs=09 ) to see if it would handle dual channel ddr, the cpu i am using is an AMD Athlon XP 3200+, 400MHz FSB,2.2GHz. i went to the asus web site and found my board, and a list of compatable vendors, but it doesn't say if i can use dual channel. any help that can be provided would be great.

When a motherboard supports dual channel it has a multiple of 2 memory sockets, not an odd number. It also has them color coded showing which work in pairs so you can have dual channel support.

It definitely appears you have the wrong motherboard for this top speed option.

Asus A7N8X-X is an economy board, not supporting dual channel.

Asus A7N8X-X Specifications:
The A7N8X-X is a stripped down version of the A7N8X Deluxe. It has NO dual channel support, no firewire support, no SATA controllers, no second ethernet jack, and no SoundStorm Dolby Digital Audio. Both of these boards have three memory slots, however, the Deluxe version supports dual channel memory, using two controllers. The dual channel mode will work with two or three sticks inserted, although with three, they should be in a 256-256-512MB configuration. Some maintain that dual channel is a waste of time, and manage to better overclock running a single channel large stick.
