There is no Athlon 64 3100+. There is a Sempron 3100+ based on the Athlon 64, but its 64 bit features are disabled.

64 bit windows XP should run 32 bit software faster than 32 bit Windows. How much faster will depend on the application. For some applications the difference will be quite minimal, while for others the difference might be very significant. Windows 64 bit is still in its beta form, so there may be bugs, or a lack of drivers for your particular hardware. If you have a second hard drive, you might want to load the beta of 64 bit windows on that.

I have an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.2GHz with 1gig of DDR,Iwonder if yours is the same. I requested the Win XP 64bit CD ROM from MS and found it lacking in drivers for much of my hardware and the limitations of very little 64bit software.
