There is no definitive information on the new 2 cpu 64bit chips coming out from either AMD or Intel (only that AMD demonstrated a prototype chip).
The AMD 64 notebooks currently available (from E-machines or similar notebooks from HP and Compaq at HPshopping) are both more efficient and lighter then Pentium 4M based notebooks (as the mhz speed is much less) but they are not as efficient as the Pentium M (Centrino) notebooks which are both thinner and lighter weight (6 to 6.5 pound range for a 15.4" widescreen model or 5.5 pounds or less for a 14.1" square LCD model).
The battery life for the excellent prebuilt Toshiba M35S456 15.4" widescreen with Trubrite (6.2 pounds) and the HPZT3000/Compaq X1000 (see X1000forums.com) sisters (6.5 pounds) is 3.5 to 4 hours of battery life using wi-fi or longer with it turned off.
A Pentium 4M is fortunate to get 2 to 2 1/2 hours of battery life.
The Athlon 64 will fall between these 2 extremes.
Also, the Acer 2000 series (2025) Pentium M 15.4" widescreen model (6.6 pounds) has available 128mb dedicated video RAM and the ATI 9700 video card (the others above max out at 64mb dedicated video). However, the HP/Compaq models are fully customizable and have more online discounts.
Hi,
What is the average battery life of a laptop with a AMD 64 bits CPU and a 9700 radeon VC? Also, what is the average battery life of a laptop with the same VC but a Dothan 1,8 Ghz CPU?
Moreover, the new AMD 64 bits mobile CPU that will comes out in Q1 2005, what will be his average battery life with the same VC card?
Thanks a lot,
Blacko
