Question

Amber light on tower. Should it be running all the time?

by Djp1369 / July 27, 2013 3:09 AM PDT

I just replaced my psu. I went from a 650w to 800w. Now my amber light on the tower is really bright ALL of the time. Is this normal?

Do you have a clone PC or a Big Box PC ?

Amber light....probably the HDD activity light. Is it on ALL THE TIME, or on a lot ?

Answer
That depends

That depends on what amber light you're referring to. You're the only one who can actually see this light so you'll have to describe it in more detail for any of us to have even the faintest of clues what you're on about.

I'm sorry, the one underneath the power button. It didn't run like this before I changed the psu. It's very bright even when I'm not using the computer. Also, I don't have anything running in the background that would cause it to stay lit up.

Still not helping

Still not helping. Go to Amazon or NewEgg or some other site and look at the myriad of computer case options. How many do you suppose have an amber LED under the power button? Is there any documentation for your computer that might give a clue as to what that LED signifies?

Are there label or icon near it? I am guessing it's the Hdd. led, if it is, then it should not be amber ALL the time.

Yes, it is...

It is underneath the power on/off button that any standard computer tower has.... It stays lit up even when my hard drive isn't doing anything. I do not have anything hooked up other than the hard drive itself. No dvd/cd burner...nothing.

Any idea why it would be doing this? I'm scared it's going to fry something.

What does the manual of the PC tell about that amber light? Mine hasn't.

Why not unplug the LED that annoys us?
