Amatuer Photographer Looking for a Quality Digital Camera

Jun 24, 2004 1:37AM PDT

I am buying a digital camera for my girlfriend who is an amatuer photogrpaher and has a very nice analog camera. I'm looking for a relatively high resolution-quality lens camera with some manual adjustments. To make things more complicated, I can't spend over $500. I've checked out a lot of cameras at 5.1 megapixels and 3X or 4X zoom but I'm not sure this gives her the manual flexibility she needs. I'm leaning towards the Sony DSC V1.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Buying a camera for a knowledgeable amateur photographer can be a scary task. Because they have probably already looked at various cameras and has one or two in mind.

Hope you are a good mind reader.

Here are some to consider for the advanced amateur:

Sony V1
Olmypus 5060
Canon G5
Canon S60

All are $500 (plus or minus), depending upon how good a shopper you are.
