Am Ready to Install MandrakeLinux 9.2

Mar 21, 2004 4:22AM PST

Have a 40 gig & 80gig Hard Drives. Would like to install Mandrake on same Hard drive as XP. Have System up and running now. Do I have to Backup my system now and then install XP followed by Mandrake and the other software or can I just put Mandrake CD into CD writer player? Thanks in advance

"Would like to install Mandrake on same Hard drive as XP. Have System up and running now. Do I have to Backup my system now"

Repeat after me...

-> We only lose what we didn't backup.

My advice, backup what you can't lose. The XP OS is on CD, so a backup of that is not needed...

"and then install XP followed by Mandrake and the other software or can I just put Mandrake CD into CD writer player?"

My full retail Mandrake 9.2 did an additional resize of the existing OS partition and then the install of 9.2 began. This is in the manual that came with 9.2. Did they publish that on the Mandrake web site? (I didn't look.)

Thanks Bob, That was what I tried first. Had Xp on A partition of 7 gig on my 40 gig C drive. I then proceededto install Mandrake. It took most of the rest. What it didn't take was changed to a Logical Patition. This is not what I wanted as I wanted two Other Primary partitions for my Documents, favorities, start menu, etc, another for my programs.

Upps?

I thought I read that XP was already installed... and configured. It is however possible to delete the Mandrake partitions, use XP to make the partitions you write about and then install 9.2 again.

Installed Mandrake and all went well except for one thing. Had Partitions on 40 Gig all set with unallocated of 9 Gig available and had partitions D,G ,H on 80. Had 64 GiG free on *0 which Mandrake took and turned all into Logical Drives. How can I uninstall Mandrake and steer it toward the 9 gig on C?
Thanks in advance.
