Question

Alternative to PayPal

by Julieann125 / April 29, 2011 7:41 AM PDT

I want to send money to a Lady in Australia. I'm in USA. I just want to send her money, once. She doesn't have a business, but receives some charity.

What would be easy for both of us?

Julieann

Banks in other countries don't always 'talk' to each other. It can take weeks for a check to clear unless things have changed since the last time I had to send money to somebody in Central America.

Yes, I am going to check with her and my bank. If not, Western Union can always be used, but it is expensive.

Not cheap, but reliable and as safe as anything out there.

Yeah, I don't get it. I have seen XOOM ads. It seems i must ask her for her account number .I'm sure she'll be thrilled.

(NT) Thrilled, maybe, but she shouldn't supply it.

Is there any reason PayPal won't work for you?

Does this lady have internet access? If so, PayPal might be the way.

Also, if she has internet access and she banks online, there may be a way for you to transfer money from your online account direct to hers. I've done it myself in the UK, but only within the UK itself.

Your bank would be able to say whether they can do this online US to Oz. Or they may have a better option.

Try a Postal Money Order, assuming they still have them at

the privatized Post Office. I used to use them all the time. Secure, and much cheaper than Western Union.

This is a duplicate post since my first one hasn't appeared in the last 4 hours.

Money Order?

Believe it or not, but the USPS website doesn't list Australia as a country with which it will send a money order!

Sorry, Julieann
