I've never heard of iTunes causing a BSOD, (Blue Screen of Death), on Windows like that before.
Was there a STOP Error Code: on that BSOD? Were there any other messages, like driver problems, or Memory, or similar?
The problem with iTunes is that Apple doesn't allow users to use anything else to download music to iPods/iPhones, etc, and we can't help to circumvent those restrictions.
If you feel like trying again, how about following the guidance in the link below;

Make sure you follow the instructions 'to the letter'.
If it still fails, head over to CNET's iPod forum in the link below and ask the experts there;

Good luck.

Recently acquired a new ipod nano 8GB. Downloaded "itunes" and successfully downloaded many songs from my computer (Dell Optiplex w/ Windows XP Pro) to the nano. Everything looked rosey until I tried to turn my computer on the next day. Part way through the Windows uploading process, got a "blue screen" warning telling me that Windows had detected a problem and had to shut down (first time I had ever seen this on this computer). At first was able to restart the computer sucessfully by just doing "restart". However, it got to the point where could not restart the computer at all without getting the same "blue screen" warning.
To make a long story short, was able to uninstall "itunes" using the safe start mode. Now I am leary about reinstalling "itunes", and am looking for an alternative. Tried installing and using "CopyTrans Manager"; but, when I plugged in my ipod, got a warning message that said the program was not fully compatible with my particular ipod (guess thery're not ready for the latest).
Now I'm stuck with a brand new ipod with no way to support it. Any suggestions (besides buy a new computer)?
