Alternating pointer ,prompt flashing problem in IE 6 and 7

by Rover71 / September 23, 2007 12:21 AM PDT

We have a Compaq Presario SR2020NX new Nov. '06, XP Media Edition, keep it pretty clean.
When I updated to IE7 A few months ago, it developed an annoying habit of the mouse pointer alternatingly flashing with the prompt whenever I try to place the cursor in a subject line. It happens in OE, Google ,etc. and only in IE, Firefox is OK. I've removed IE7, same thing, replaced it, same result. I can get it to work by clicking and moving around, usually slightly below the line.
We aired this some time ago, on a different thread, and tried a few suggestions. Does anyone have an idea, short of a major reinstallation of XP ? All tips appreciated-----Harv

Re 5.7 link

Thanks for the comeback Grif. I remember you trying to help me previously. I downloaded the 5.7 and tried a couple of subject lines, Google seemed to be a lot better, did a forward in OE and when changing subject, got flashing on first click, but got cursor on second one several times. I'll run it for a while & let you know.
Thanks again ---------Harv

Flashing pointer, prompt annoyance--Grif?

Hi
After downloading the 5.7 version, the symptoms were a lot better for a while, but seem to have returned just as bad now. Eg: When forwarding an OE message & trying to change subject, the prompt & pointer keep alternately flashing rapidly, won't allow cursor insertion. Multiple clicks & double clicks will eventually get it to work.Same thing happens on Google & other subject lines. Any other ideas welcome, thanks Harv

I thought it was better for a while, but has gotten worse lately. Still no problem in Firefox, but I like to use OE and other IE stuff. Any new ideas anyone?? Harv
