I have recently had a problem with an improperly mounted drive, i have now installed xp again on a seperate partition and is stable. However I had neccasary files on my account on the previous installation of xp, i know the username and password to the account, how can i access the files?

If you attach the HDD as slave to your PC you can access the files directly from the slave HDD.

Look in the Documents & Settings in the slave HDD for the user which you want to recover the files from.

Thats my current setup, i have a 2gb hdd set as primary master through cmos, and a 60gb hdd set as primary slave. The original installation is on the 60gb and the new installation is on the 2gb. I dont think i am able to repair the damage made to xp on the 60gb so i just need to retreive my files, i know the username and password, and i have even tried networking the drive with all users but still no avail.

Doesnt matter, ive done it now, i got xp to backup data in the my documents which i couldnt access the restore without previous security settings in another directory.
