allotting a static ip inplace of dynamic ip

os : windows 8.1
dell xps 17 l702x

hi

i ve recently got a new internet connection. my isp provides a dynamic ip and im supposed to connect to internet through a login page.

im trying to connect to the internet using static ip. using the same values as in dynamic ip but the connection is not going through. im getting limited connection error.

please help me in establishing a connection using static ip

The short answer is to use the IP range of your LAN but not inside the DHCP range.

Just like all your common connections you need IP, Netmask, Gateway and DNS.

what if the dhcp range is from 1 to 255...??

Then you are taking a chance of a problem.

There is no correct answer but you can try higher IPs since those are handed out last in most cases.

BTW, that would be an invalid DHCP range

For most cases but I don't know your LAN's NETMASK and such. Imagine if my netmask was 255.255.0.0?
