General discussion

All the RAM not showing up.

Jan 2, 2005 10:33AM PST

I recently installed an extra 256MB of RAM, when I check out my system properties is shows that I have 504MB. I wonder where the other 8MB went? I also installed an ATI Radeon video card with 128MB to replace my onboard video, could that have anything to do with it? If so, is there anything I can do get that extra memory back, or is it lost?

I don't know is this is important, but it also told me that there was a problem with virtual memory. So I increased the page file to 1.5 X the amount of installed RAM. I haven't had that message since.

I am running XP Pro, 512MB RAM.

What make/model board?

Not all allow a total disable of the onboard video. Some like the i810 series may allow you to reduce the RAM, but never give it all back.

More Virtual Memroy

It is normal to have to increase virtual memory when you add more real memory. It is not done automatically for you, so you did the right thing.
