Maybe the USB port is dead. But you know have 2 computers with different front and back ports to try. If all fail, it's dead indeed.
The things to try:
1. A new enclosure for the drive
2. A new drive
Luckily, we always advise our members to never have their ONLY copy of data on any device, let alone an external drive, so - if you followed that advicer - you lose no data.
I just got a dell d630 and am trying to get all up to speed from my old computer. I have a external 500g hard drive that i moved to a different usb port and all of a sudden it is dead.
Does anyone know what is up with that ??????
